Zooming in brings a new perspective
What is it about zooming in and cropping that makes a work of art so impactful for me? The act of cutting, cropping, overlaying, collaging, and blowing up can transform marks that I’ve made into something fresh and curious. The phrase “blowing up,” meaning enlarging, is also strange and inspiring. When we enlarge something it can have the impact of an explosion. An explosion of color, of movement, becoming something that sucks you in or swallows you up.
This is a collage I made in 2022 from hand made gel prints and posca pens. It is already cropped and collaged, but then I zoomed in and cropped further to explore the shapes and textures within the piece.
